15 Sep GLENFERNIE FARM – A HIDDEN GEM IN THE HINTERLAND
A short drive from Bangalow, in New South Wales Australia, tucked away in the in the hinterland of Newrybar you will discover Glenfernie Farm – a beautiful, private, hidden gem. The homestead is a beautiful Queenslander which is more than 100 years old. Glenfernie Farm is a five acre piece of country paradise, with rolling hills and stunning views down the valley through to and over Lennox Head.
Owned by hosts Millie and Izzy, they have put a lot of thought and love into developing the property and it shows. Since they bought Glenfernie Farm in 2020, the homestead and property have undergone extensive renovations. “What a journey the past 10 months has been,” Izzy explains. Millie continues, “We fell in love with this old farmhouse the minute we saw it. The charming old bones of this Queenslander have seen more than 100 years of life’s moments. We wanted to retain as much history as we could whilst also creating a home that would last another 100 years.”
Izzy states, “It has been our dream to live on a property, purely for the peace and quiet and ability to have farm animals. We were up in Byron during the COVID lockdown early 2020 and were viewing a few places during our work lunch breaks to get a better understanding of the market. We viewed around 10 properties and we knew as soon as we saw this one, we knew that it was the one.”
“The charm, location, uninterrupted views, the one story level and the ability to add our own touch on it were the reasons why we feel in love with this amazing home. I have always thought Queenslander homes have so much character, history and charm. You can’t build houses like this anymore” comments Millie.
“What we thought were going to be quick and easy renovations, ended up being nine months and over budget. What renovation isn’t over budget though? As the house is positioned on a hill, all the exterior landscaping was on a slope. Our goal was to create flat, useable, designated lawn areas for animals to run around, children to play, sunset picnics and more. We feel we have now achieved this and couldn’t be happier with the results. The project has been a lot of blood, sweat and tears” says Millie.
“Before COVID lockdown, we had the studio open for bookings and were nearly fully booked each week. We would have on average two sets of guests a week. We have met so many amazing people so far and can’t wait to meet many more” Izzy explains.
STUDIO ACCOMMODATION
Millie and Izzy have created an incredibly beautiful, comfortable and wonderfully restorative space. The studio accommodation is a designer haven, the furnishings and amenities present like a 5-star boutique hotel. Filled with natural light, opening onto incredible views from every part of the studio, you will find everything you need. Thoughtful and generous welcoming touches include a fresh loaf of sourdough, butter, jam, prosecco and orange juice. Luxe Aesop body wash and Diptyque candles are provided, and lush bed linens and towels complete the luxurious experience.
The stunning views across the valley create a tranquil atmosphere. Watch as the sun sets slowly over the hills highlighting the pool, lush grass and amazing views. Enjoy a cocktail by the pool while listening to the sounds of the prolific bird life celebrating the end of another day.
Choose your own adventure. There are stunning drives through the hinterland, surfing lessons down at The Pass, bush walking and much more. There are endless activities to do in Byron Bay for example you can do a food tour throughout the area. Or you can spend it lying by the pool sipping cocktails back at Glenfernie Farm.
Millie & Izzy are more than happy to help from providing suggestions on what to do and where to visit in the region. Currently, their favourite restaurants are The Hut in the hinterland of Bangalow, Bang Bang in Byron Bay town centre and Frida’s Field in Nashua. And for late night gelato, you can’t go past In the Pink. They will make sure that your stay is relaxed and comfortable, but they will also ensure that you will have total privacy during your stay.
There are so many amazing places in the Byron Hinterland but this has to be one of the best.
